About Scuba Diving BCD's

Every Oceanic scuba diving BCD is built for quality and comfort.

The right BCD will keep you trim and balanced with quick access to your equipment. Investing in a buoyancy compensator will give you years of scuba diving comfort and fun. However, one size doesn’t fit all, so Oceanic offers a wide selection of BCDs for scuba diving.

What is a BCD for scuba?

A BCD aims to help scuba divers control their water position. At the surface, a scuba diving BCD should have enough lift to keep the diver’s head above water. While under the water, a diver will use the BCD’s inflation and deflation to help reach neutral buoyancy.

Buoyancy Compensator Device Styles.

There are two main inflation styles of scuba diving BCDs. Jacket BCDs help keep the diver vertical at the surface and allow them to lie on their back for surface swimming easily.

A jacket-style buoyancy compensator wraps the air bladder around the diver. A back-inflate buoyancy compensator is built with the air bladder on the back of the diver for better horizontal positioning while swimming underwater.

Choosing the right scuba diving BCD

There are several things to consider when purchasing a buoyancy compensator. If you intend to do some dive travel, consider a lightweight BCD for scuba such as the Biolite. Frequent scuba divers need a BCD to withstand repeated abuse; we recommend the Excursion or Atmos. Female divers who find a BCD’s fit challenging should try the Hera BCD, explicitly designed for a woman’s frame. The budget-minded divers can maintain quality and comfort with Oceanpro and Oceansport.
