About Scuba Diving Regulators

Oceanic has been a leading innovator in scuba diving for over 50 years, including developing some of diving’s most popular scuba diving regulators.

Your scuba diving regulator allows you to extend your underwater adventure. Only with a regulator is scuba diving possible. So, how does a regulator work, and how do you choose the right one?

How does a scuba diving regulator work?

The gas in your tank is under tremendous pressure. The scuba regulator takes high pressure and turns it into breathable, ambient pressure in two steps.

The scuba regulator’s first stage is the component that attaches to the tank. The first stage reduces the high pressure from the tank to intermediate pressure. There are two different types of connections, Yoke and DIN.

The gas travels from the first stage, through the hose, to the second stage. The second stage is the part that goes into the diver’s mouth. In this case, water. It reduces the intermediate pressure to pressure equal to the surrounding medium pressure, or ambient pressure. Ambient pressure means the diver can breathe easily, no matter how deep.

Which is the best regulator?

The best regulator depends on the diver’s needs, budget, and type of diving. Regardless of price, Oceanic’s regulators and octos are quality products ready to serve a diver for years.
